Rabies!

In the Northern States

Rabies has become an issue here recently. Most believe the virus migrated from Thailand, which shares Malaysia's northern border. Those in the greatest danger of contracting rabies live in small villages and rural towns. Owners are vaccinating their pets, but wild animals can still carry the virus. Pray that the authorities can control the spread of rabies here.
Hinduism

In our back yard

The Batu Cave are a natural wonder and a man made shrine to the Hindu god Murugan. This cave is a popular Hindu destination by people from Malaysia and India. During the Hindu festival called Thaipusam, thousands flock to the caves to worship and celebrate.
New cases of typhoid fever are on the rise in Kuala Lumpur. The hot hazy days and lack of rain seem to contribute to the problem. Pray that the authorities will find an answer or that rain returns to control typhoid.

HAZE in Malaysia

Unhealthy Air Quality Values

The annual burning season in Indonesia has severely affected the air quality in Malaysia and Singapore. Right now, Indonesian forests burn to make way for gardens and plantations. Unfortunately some fires are burning out of control and will continue to do so until monsoon season.
Malaysian schools have closed down on days the air quality index readings are in the red zone. The haze is so bad that on some days you can't see the sun!  We have seen AQI values from 100-200 in the last weeks. Pray for rain in Indonesia and Malaysia to put out the fires and clear the air.

72 Hours

To get out of the country!

Jabaro grew up in Iran. He had difficulty in school so he was sent to a reform school (boarding school). He knew that his options for a better life were narrowing, so he disciplined himself, achieved good grades and was accepted to university in Iran. College life was good and Jabaro enjoyed his studies and friends on campus. He met a girl and they were married while he was still attending university. Jabaro’s future in Iran changed when he joined a student activist group that protested the government. Some of his fellow students were arrested. Jabaro was told by a friend who worked in government that he had 72 hours to leave the country! He quickly said goodbye to his relatives, then he and his wife boarded a plane for Malaysia. They now live here under refugee status with the United Nations. Jabaro met believers in Malaysia who talked to him about his relationship with God. He began to study the Bible and became a believer along with his wife. God recently brought them to our fellowship and we have enjoyed getting to know them. God has humbled Jabaro through life circumstances and he is learning to depend on Him for everything. Please pray for Jabaro, his wife and two young children as they continue to grow and trust God for the future.
Upward Learning

Perform for Cancer Event (Locks of Hope)

Our Upward Learning student’s volunteered to sing and perform at a community event called Locks of Hope. This event was designed to collect hair from people in the community to make wigs for cancer patients. Our students performed brilliantly and the community was blessed by their voices. Some of them even donated their hair to Locks of Hope.

Hair Donated to Make Wigs

At Upward Learning we encourage our students to help with community projects, developing within them leadership and social responsibility.
C H U R C H PLANT

New Families Attending

This Sunday we enjoyed a worship service with new families attending.  We see people joining our fellowship by personal invitation and word of mouth. Some of them are parents of students in our learning center and are not attending worship services elsewhere. We have started a small group meeting during the week that is focused on young families. Pray that we can connect with parents on a more intimate level to share His love and Word.
