We’ll demonstrate how our farm uses regenerative techniques and permaculture practices to yield a bounty of fruits and vegetables while preserving the native ecosystem. Our geodesic dome, one of seven greenhouses, holds our wasabi garden. Check out our metal work and welding fabrication in our blacksmith shop. Kids can take a special tour (led by a kid) and go on a scavenger hunt. We are nestled in a scenic high mountain valley with a rushing stream and surrounding nature preserve. Come learn how to live with the land, run a market garden, homestead, and more.

Root Cause Farm is a nonprofit organization growing community solutions to hunger. We grow vegetables on over an acre, host service-learning groups, and operate as a community gathering space and distribution hub. Everything we grow is distributed at no-cost markets through partner organizations. Visitors can tour our gardens, view bee hives, say hello to the chickens, and enjoy wood-fired pizza from our cob oven. Kids can also play at the playground and participate in a garden scavenger hunt.

We are a historic working farm raising grassfed beef, as well as pastured pork and chickens. We are also now a Savory Hub, teaching local homesteaders and farmers regenerative practices! Take a farmer-led tour of our pastures, animals, and farm practices. There will be two tour times on Saturday at 12PM and 2PM and one tour time on Sunday at 12PM. Visitors can enjoy self-guided barnyard tours, visit the baby chicks in the brooder house, and see the cows and pigs in the pasture. We also have plenty of space and equipment for kids to play, including our culvert slides, sound silo, hammock circle, treehouse, and creek! Stop by the fully stocked farm store for samples and sales, and stay for a picnic in the barn or on the grass.

Get your steps in with a guided tour! Explore the terroir of our vineyard, which is part of the AVA Crest of the Blue Ridge. Learn about the history of Marked Tree and the changing seasons at the vineyard. Take in the gorgeous open vistas. Stay for a glass of our wine in our tasting room or patio, or purchase a bottle to take with you. The walking tour will last about 30-45 minutes. Take a guided tour of the raspberry patch with owners Chris and Stacy, who will offer demonstrations and answer questions about raspberry farming. Shop our farm store for raspberry treats or grab a sandwich on fresh-baked sourdough. Relax down by the creek. Some seating is available, but we encourage you to bring your own chair or blanket. We’ll also have a kids table set up with activities.
